The common cause
Dust packed into the heatsink and degraded liquid metal between the APU and heatsink. The original liquid metal Sony used can pump out over time and create air gaps, so the chip can't shed heat fast enough.
How we repair it
Full teardown, ultrasonic clean of the heatsink, fan, and intake vents, then we reapply fresh high-grade liquid metal with proper dam to stop migration. Reassemble, stress test for 30+ minutes.
