The common cause
Worn drive belt, slipped gear, dust on the laser lens, or a failed disc drive control board. PS5 disc drives are particularly fussy — even a small mechanical issue locks the whole drive.
How we repair it
Open the drive, diagnose mechanically (belt, gears, motor), clean or replace the laser, test with multiple discs. If the drive is dead we fit a replacement (PS5 OG "phat" drives are pricier — $350 — because of Sony's pairing).
